Inside Frame Vol. 9

Returning with a special kama muta edition just in time for Valentine’s Day, FRAME's content creator Clara and coffee guru Victor recount their romantic anecdote and shared appreciation for artisanship and give the perfect dinner date recipe.

How did you two first meet?

V: We met at school party where I saw Clara standing next to a mutual friend and I gave her a drink. We danced a bit, but nothing happened. Clara doesn't even remember us dancing, haha.

C: We bumped into each other occasionally in town, at festivals, and at gatherings. I remember always having a really fun time when I was with Victor; so in our senior year I asked Victor to be my prom date.

V: I accepted and asked her out for a glass of wine, because we never really had spoken to each other before that or had ever been alone, just the two of us.

That’s a sweet beginning. How did you guys “fall in love”?

C: After we graduated, I left for Paris. And not too long after, Victor came to visit to see his barista friend.

V: The first evening in Paris, we went directly from the train station to a ramen shop, ate a bowl of Paitan Ramen, and went to a natural wine bar. The next few days consisted of similar activities. Walking down the streets of Paris, visiting different cafes, bars, and museums.

C: Victor introduced me to his world – particularly in specialty coffee on this trip. Having worked in the industry for over seven years and winning the Danish Brewers Cup, he was very passionate about specialty coffee so he took me to many cafes that I didn’t know and actually visited frequently after Victor left Paris.

V: I always thought Clara was very, very sweet and after a week of spending time together, I realized that I wanted us to be more than just friends.

C: We were able to be ourselves, being far away from everyone we knew. We took our time to enjoy the city without jumping into people we know.

What brought the both of you to Dubai?

V: In January 2020, Chun and Peter came to Denmark to see La Cabra’s roastery in Copenhagen and La Cabra cafe in Aarhus. Over dinner, Peter asked me if I wanted to come to Dubai to get experience in setting up a new café and restaurant and lead on barista coffee training. I was ready to move right away as it seemed like a good opportunity to learn a lot for when I would start my own business one day. But due to the pandemic, plans got delayed and Clara and I moved in October of that year.

C: At the beginning I was planning to visit a few months only – seemed like a good idea since everything in Denmark was closed at the time. Once I came and saw what the FRAME retail team were doing, I wanted to be a part of team. Peter saw some of my sketches and photographs, and as the team was loaded, a spot opened up in the marketing team. I thought this would be a good opportunity to gain experience and also continue with my passion in drawing, photography, and videography.

Favorite fashion brand and why?

C: I like Affix’s visual content on Instagram and AFFIX WORKS’s stream on SoundCloud. As a woman, I don’t think the fit works but the new utility style for men looks nice. I also like CDG play for their simplistic yet playful design.

V: I have recently discovered my interest in fashion and it definitely happened from seeing the passion from the team at FRAME. My favorite brand would be Comme des Garcons SHIRT, as the brand reflects my personality quite well – focusing lot on quality in production and material, whilst radiating timelessness. When I look at some of the CDG pieces, I can imagine wearing them for the rest of my life.

Do you share any similar interests?

V: We both enjoy great craftsmanship, whether it's expressed through design, fashion or a perfectly made cup of coffee.

C: During the first lockdown in Denmark, we spent several weeks making mozzarella and picking mushrooms in the forest and started cooking together and this is a time we both really value.

The perfect recipe for a dinner date?

V: Tomato risotto with confit tomato and porcini mushrooms

C: We’ve also put together a playlist to go with the dinner.
